My manuscript, Codependence: A Novel in Essays, won Cleveland State University Poetry Center’s 2018 Essay Collection Contest, judged by Brian Blanchfield. Codependence will release as an actual book in actual stores on September 10, 2019.
I’m so excited to work with CSU Poetry Center (which has published books including Lily Hoang’s A Bestiary, James Allen Hall’s I Liked You Better Before I Knew You So Well, and Shaelyn Smith’s The Leftovers as part of their essay contest series); honored to have won, especially after seeing the finalist and semi-finalist lists (Jill Talbot! Suzanne Scanlon! Julie Marie Wade! Adam Fagin!); and humbled that Brian picked my manuscript since his book Proxies was probably my favorite essay collection of 2017. Thank you, Caryl, Hilary, and Brian. I’m also indebted to my peers and advisors at Virginia Tech; I started writing Codependence in Matthew Vollmer‘s 2014 Creative Nonfiction workshop, and I don’t think I could have done it without him.
Congratulations, too, to Oliver Baez Bendorf and Anne Lesley Selcer, who won the poetry competitions.
I will keep you updated here. I guess I have to start using my website more!
